Welcome to our website!
We are forming a cohousing community in
Olympia,
Washington. Our intention is to
build between 19 and 23 homes on 2.9 acres that we
own on the west side of Olympia. We will have a
common house for community activities and shared
resources (for example, large kitchen and laundry
facilities). We are looking forward to being the
first cohousing project in the city of Olympia.
We are actively recruiting members. Contact us for more information.
Moving Dirt!
Woodard Lane Cohousing in Olympia, Washington
is ready
to break-ground
on our
property. We are still waiting for final approval of
our engineering plans from the city staff. But, we
can start on some preliminary work on the ground
now. Removing some trees (but keeping as many as
possible), installing the storm-water plan,
regrading the property, paving the parking lot, and
preparing, but not installing yet, the grass-crete
should be finished by the end of September.
City Council Approval!
After numerous delays and false starts, we finally had
our City Council hearing to approve our development. In
the end, the hearing was rather anti-climactic. The
city staff gave a brief 2 minute overview of the
project, a couple city council members asked a couple
questions, the mayor said, "Does everyone understand
what we're voting on? Ok, all in favor? (Everyone.) All
opposed? (No one.) Ok, it passes. Next agenda item."
What they approved is our development plan to build a
cohousing community (as defined in city municipal code)
with up to 16 homes. We will exercise our ability to
purchase the right to build 3 more homes, for 19 total.
We may request an exception to or revision of a city
code to allow us to build a couple more homes. But, the
chance of success is not encouraging at this point.
